While waiting for the enclosures to arrive so I can fill the orders I have in my backlog, I got extremely bored and started tinkering. I wondered what would happen if I took out just the first buffer/gain stage out of an Arcturus, miniaturised it the best I could and made a pedal out of it. Well, this is the result – around 40dB of gain (if your preamp can handle, mine sure couldn’t). For the mojo factor, I used a NOS CTS pot dated 1967. To record the demo below, I plugged it straight into a ’59 Bassman 4×10 and I’m playing my trusty Rickenbacker 330.
